The Covid-19 pandemic highlighted a stark digital divide, leaving many young people without access to essential technology.

Go Higher West Yorkshire (GHWY), a consortium focused on widening access to higher education, recognised this gap and set out to reach students in schools without computer access during lockdown.

The solution was a physical workbook that could guide students through further education options, bridging the gap in access.

To ensure the workbook felt tailored and engaging, we consulted with stakeholders to capture a look and feel that was aspirational, youthful (but not childish), and high quality in design. Inspired by these insights, we created a suite of vibrant shapes and icons using GHWY’s branding, which the client loved so much they’ve since integrated them into other materials.

The workbook featured a tabbed, colour-coded layout, allowing students to easily navigate sections—practical and intuitive.

Beyond print, we created an accessible digital version hosted on the GHWY website, maximising the workbook’s reach. Distributed across West Yorkshire schools and used in career outreach sessions, the guide was a hit, with demand so high that multiple reprints were requested.

By delivering this resource in both print and digital formats, we enabled GHWY to reach a wide audience, empowering young people with accessible educational resources and helping bridge the digital divide.
