Three years after the pet boom during lockdown, the number of pets being given up due to the cost of living crisis up skyrocketed.

RSPCA Northamptonshire suddenly found themselves having to look after more pets than they had space for.

They came to us for support with an awareness campaign and a toolkit to help with future fundraising that would help fund a beautiful kennel site, out in 11 acres of countryside – where they would be able to rescue and rehabilitate more pets than ever before.

Our research revealed the devastating impact of the cost-of-living crisis on pet owners, with as many as 777,000 pet owners reporting to going without necessities and even skipping meals in able to afford pet care. It was very clear to us that the devastating choice to part with their pets hadn’t been made lightly, so we needed to make sure that the campaign we developed was sensitive to this fact.

This groundwork led to our campaign “You can’t put a price on pets”, underscoring the irreplaceable value pets bring to our lives and putting the blame on the cost-of-living crisis rather than pet owners for the rising number of animals in need of urgent care. We used AI-generated imagery to bring this heartbreaking concept to life as this not only gave us more freedom but was a more cost-effective solution for the charity.

Our client was thrilled with the outcome, describing our campaign concept as ‘phenomenal’.

The Northamptonshire branch is now equipped with the tools and strategy to not only raise awareness of their charity but to drive their fundraising efforts to secure the much-needed new kennel site.
